The tragedy of the ocean liner Lusitania told in drawings, in 1918.
In May 1915, a German submarine torpedoed the British liner Lusitania off the coast of Ireland, and more than a thousand people died. Shocked by the news, Winsor McCay spent almost two years recreating the tragedy in thousands of drawings. The result is a historic, dramatic piece ahead of its time, considered one of the first animated documentaries.
