Beneath the Paris Opera lives a masked genius obsessed with a young singer.
In the cellars of the Paris Opera hides Erik, a disfigured musician concealed behind a mask. In love with the singer Christine, he secretly helps her become a star, but his love turns into obsession and threatens the whole theater. Lon Chaney, 'the man of a thousand faces', created makeup so frightening that 1925 audiences screamed at the unmasking scene.
