A playful dinosaur obeys (or doesn't) her artist in one of the first cartoons.
A group of friends bets that cartoonist Winsor McCay can't bring a dinosaur to life. He takes the challenge and creates Gertie, a friendly dinosaur who dances, eats trees, plays with a mammoth and sometimes misbehaves. It was one of the first cartoons with a character who had a real personality, and it paved the way for all the animation that followed.
